Fiberglass Chairs: Something of How They Get the Way They Are

DATE - 1970

A cinematic look at the design and production of the Eames fiberglass-reinforced molded plastic chairs. Each step in the production process is shown—from the idea on the drawing board, to the formation of a clay model, the building of a hand-made prototype, the fiberglass lay-up of the chairs on the assembly line, the casting process, the finishing
, and final assembly and packaging of the finished product. Close-up sequences of the movement of people and machines involved in assembly-line production are choreographed to the music track, with no narration.
