Eames Spotting takes note when artists choose Eames. It appears from this photograph, on page 64 of the December 2006 Elle Decor, that New York-based artist Amy Sillman not only sits on her Eames DKX chair, she also gets paint on it.

You can see more of her paintings at http://www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/artists/amy_sillman.htm

We wish Amy Sillman a long and rewarding career as an artist.

"The New York painter has mischief up her sleeve, slyly populating her gorgeous abstract canvases with humorous figures and creatures." Elle Decor is not the only publication to acknowledge a sense of FUN in Amy Sillman's serious art. David Humphrey, writing in BOMB magazine, observed: "Sillman’s paintings have a strong personality expressed by loquacious jocularity and confessional intimacy. A radiant brightness saturates her painted atmospheres; horizons curl onto themselves and hapless protagonists are imprinted by anxieties and longings."

This puts Amy Sillman right in the Eames zone. Charles Eames advised us to have fun when we work, and to take our pleasures seriously. When addressing this subject, Charles would sometimes invoke the circus, a world characterized by fun and chaos, but a world whose very existence required careful planning and discipline and organization.

Here are pictures of Charles and Ray Eames at play, or are they working?
