The Eameses believed toys reveal information about the things human beings make and use, while also saying something meaningful about the everyday objects we take for granted and no longer see as beautiful.
Charles and Ray exhibited this belief by designing the Eames Medium House of Cards. They created this toy in continuation of the original (or small) House of cards, which initially included two decks showing images of what Charles and Ray called “good stuff.” One featured patterns and the other, pictures.
The Medium House of Cards—still available today—features images from the pattern deck. The cards can be interlocked together to build towers, bridges, and many other fun structures.
