The beautiful Baptistery in Florence, Italy, was built between 1059 and 1128, making it one of the oldest buildings in the city.

Charles made 57 images of this structure and assembled them into a multiscreen slideshow as part of the fourth of his six Norton Lectures at Harvard University.

He presented Baptistry to illustrate the Eamesian idea that one can “covet without coveting possession,” and that “using a camera is one way of eating your cake and having it too.”
