A look at the Smithsonian Museum of Art’s exhibition catalogue, A Modern Consciousness: D. J. DePree and Florence Knoll.

This Smithsonian Museum of Art exhibition honored the two designers of 20th-century American furniture who contributed greatly to the success of two major companies, Herman Miller Incorporated and Knoll International. Some 50 pieces of furniture were on display, including many Eames designs. This is the catalog of the exhibition.

D. J. DePree was the legendary founder of Herman Miller, who brought Charles and Ray Eames into the company. Florence Knoll attended Cranbrook Academy of Art at the same time as her friends, Charles Eames and Ray Eames.
