Philippe Starck Specifies Eames Posted October 15, 2000 by Daniel Ostroff
A new Schrager hotel….demands design and a half if you are to be taken seriously. (Hotel reviewer) George Epaminondas finds that once again Philippe has come up with the goods.”
“Ian Schrager hotels are like stilled mirrorballs: sexy, showy and a whimsical reflection of the zeitgeist.” pages 273 and 274, Wallpaper October 2000.
Eames Spotting notes that this Philippe Starck-designed hotel makes use of an Eames LaChaise to reflect the 21st century zeitgeist. LaChaise was designed and first introduced in 1948 yet it still helps define the zeitgeist, whenever and wherever it is placed.
In another context Philippe Starck observed:
“”As my life advances, more and more my house becomes filled with the work of Charles Eames. Naturally, and by necessity. These objects cause me to pause and reflect on how distant I am from this elegance born of man, nature, intelligence, and economy. Thank you, Ray. Thank you, Charles.”
