Charles and Ray worked on a wide variety of proposals for different companies. In the book Charles and Ray Eames: Designers of the Twentieth Century, Pat Kirkham writes: “One of the Eameses’ most unusual projects was a ‘Birthday House’ for Hallmark Cards, designed in the form of a bandstand-cum-carousel. The idea of a special space in which to celebrate birthdays (as they always did) appealed to them greatly; however, this was (another) case where they felt they did not have the full backing of the client, and they abandoned this delightful project.”
