One Hundred Great Product Designs

Posted July 5, 2017

Jay Doblin, an accomplished designer and veteran of Raymond Loewy’s office, was director of design at the Illinois Institute of Technology for fourteen years. He surveyed top designers to select the individuals included in this important book.

The earliest design in this book is the Franklin Stove of 1742. The latest design is the Bell Trimline Phone of 1965. Looking at “industrial designs” between 1742 and 1965, Charles and Ray’s peers, who were fellow designers, selected two Eames designs: The Molded Plywood Chair of 1946 and the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman of 1956, as two of the top one hundred. The texts accompanying every design in this book are serious, scholarly, well researched, and reliable.
