The World of Charles and Ray Eames Travels to Genk, Belgium

Posted February 6, 2017

February 18 – May 28, 2017: The acclaimed exhibition, The World of Charles and Ray Eames, continues its global tour. Next stop: C-mine in Genk, Belgium.

The acclaimed retrospective, The World of Charles and Ray Eames, is traveling to Genk, Belgium. Curated by the Barbican Art Gallery in collaboration with the Eames Office, the exhibition premiered in London in 2015 and has since been on view in Umeå, Sweden, and Lisbon, Portugal.

This extensive exhibition surveys Charles and Ray’s rich careers and extraordinary work. Their Office was a ‘laboratory,’ active for over four decades, where the Eameses, their collaborators, and their staff produced an array of pioneering designs. For most people, their work is characterized by designs for furniture and products, yet their interest in addressing the needs of any given problem led them to communicate using a variety of tools and media.

This show investigates Charles and Ray’s work through objects and projects produced during their lifetime including film, multi-channel slideshows, photography, furniture, products, drawings, sculpture, painting, graphic design, models, props, and exhibition and installation artifacts.

February 20, join C-mine for a lecture about the design duo by Eames Demetrios. To find out about additional exhibition-related programs, lectures, and classes, please click here.
