Eames and Muunto Posted February 15, 2007 by Daniel Ostroff
We scanned this from the February 2007 issue of DWELL magazine but it is an official MUUNTO company photograph so we are classifying this as an example of “Eames Spotting & Madison Avenue.” This Finnish furnishings company (www.muunto.fi) has elected to promote their own furniture designs, in this case, one of the many shelving systems, by associating it visually with classic Eames designs, in this case, the Eames DSR (Dining chair height, Sideshell, Rod base).
We can tell from the absence of separate shock mounts (they are integral to the shell) and the solid black plastic foot glides that these are authentic Eames DSRs of recent manufacture and available currently, in black, light blue, lime green, red, and white, from Herman Miller and Vitra. The Eames molded plastic side chair was originally introduced in 1953; these twenty-first century Eames molded plastic shells are made of environmentally friendly, high impact plastic. You can buy these here.
